It’s not something that any of us like to think about, but making a will is a really important way to ensure that your loved ones are cared for when you are no longer around. It is vital to make sure that the person making your will has the necessary qualifications and expertise.
Needless to say, most people’s first priority is taking care of their family. Once you are confident that adequate provision has been made for those close to you – have you thought about making a difference to a charity close to your heart?
In the last few years, the Child Brain Injury Trust has been the recipient of significant legacy donations which have made a huge impact on the services that we can provide to children and families affected by acquired brain injury.
If you would like to leave the charity a legacy in your will, there are 3 ways you can do so:
Pecuniary – this is when you set a specific sum of money aside. The major thing to consider with this is the rate of inflation.
Residual – this is the remainder of your estate once everyone else has been taken care of.
Specific – when you set aside a specific item for the charity. This could include a painting or a piece of jewellery for example.
